Discus showcases American single malts at BCB London
The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States will celebrate the newly recognised American single malt category at Bar Convent London (BCB).

This year, Discus will celebrate the recognition of American single malt whiskies as a distinct category for the first time at BCB London, taking place from 30 June to 1 July at Tobacco Dock in Wapping.
Driven by the rise of craft distilling in the US, American single malt was officially recognised by the US government in December 2024, and is federally defined by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).
According to TTB guidelines, American single malt must be made with 100% malted barley, produced at a single distillery, and matured in barrels that do not exceed 700 litres in size. Additionally, it must be bottled at a minimum ABV of 40%. All processes, including mashing, distilling, and maturing, must take place entirely within the US.
On Monday 30 June, Discus will host a masterclass at BCB London titled ‘American Single Malt – New World Whiskey, New Rules’ from 2.15pm-3pm.
The event promises UK drinks professionals a guided tasting and deep dive into the category’s evolution and global potential.
President and CEO of Discus, Chris Swonger, said: “American single malt brings something new to the table while respecting the craft that whiskey lovers appreciate. This is a new world whiskey rooted in quality, innovation and a deep sense of place.”
The evening will continue at the American Spirits Networking Reception from 6:30pm at Odyssey Bar and Lounge in Shoreditch. The exclusive invite-only event will feature American whiskey cocktails, guided tastings from 13 American whiskey brands, and a gathering of key trade, media, and creative guests.
Visitors to the Discus booth EM5-01 at BCB can sample a curated selection of American single malts, whiskeys, and other American spirits.
Featured brands include producers such as Angel’s Envy, Brother’s Bond Bourbon, Reservoir Distillery, Uncle Nearest, Virginia Distillery Co, Westland, Woodford Reserve, and Yellowstone.
Earlier this month, BCB ambassador Jack Sotti joined The Spirits Business Podcast to discuss the inaugural BCB London event.
Earlier this year, BCB London hosted educational events across the UK and Ireland in anticipation of the event.
