Tamdhu adds 21YO whisky to core range
By Miona MadsenIan Macleod Distillers-owned Tamdhu Distillery has introduced a 21-year-old single malt to its permanent collection.

Known for its Sherry cask-matured whiskies, Tamdhu has been distilling on the banks of the River Spey since 1897.
The new ‘coming of age’ limited annual release of 21-year-old single malt has been aged in Sherry casks, predominantly European oak, crafted in the family cooperages and Bodegas of Jerez.
Gordon Dundas, global brand ambassador for Tamdhu and Ian Macleod Distillers’ whiskies, said: “Tamdhu Distillery is located on the banks of the Spey and produces its spirit using local spring water.
“This limited ‘coming of age’ 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso Sherry casks to deliver a flavour profile and entirely natural colour that makes this spirit elegant and distinctive.”
Offered at 47.5% ABV and non-chill filtered, the whisky displays aromas of Sherried oak, chocolate, sultanas, toffee, cinnamon porridge oats, mocha, and marzipan. On the palate, it offers additional notes of Christmas cake with Sherry-soaked raisins and candied oranges.
It will be part of brand’s portfolio worldwide, starting in the UK and across Europe.
Limited to 12,000 bottles annually, the 21-year-old Tamdhu has a suggested retail price of £299 (US$403) for a 700ml bottle.

The octagonal bottle comes in a royal green gift case featuring a Spanish-Moorish design inspired by the Southern Spanish Sherry casks used for maturation.
The box, with a metallic Tamdhu monogram, reveals an inner case and a slide drawer containing a tasting notes booklet. The closure is gold wood, adorned with a gold branded capsule.
Sandy McIntyre, distillery manager of Tamdhu, said: “Our patience and dedication shine through in every sip of Tamdhu 21-year-old.
“This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from. Oloroso Sherry casks from Spain deliver excellence for our whisky and help make this brand, produced in one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland, uniquely refined in flavour.”
For this year’s Spirit of Speyside festival, the distillery released a 21-year-old cask strength expression limited to 250 bottles. The expression sold out online quickly following its release.
Earlier this month, Tamdhu partnered with UK retailer Waitrose to launch a limited-edition 12-year-old whisky in support of the Atlantic Salmon Trust.
Earlier this year, the distillery, which doesn’t have its own visitor centre, launched a residency visitor experience at the Rosebank Distillery in Falkirk.
