The Coral Room unveils new globetrotting menu
By Rupert HohwielerLondon bar The Coral Room has released a new cocktail menu inspired by 18th-century Irish aeronaut Richard Crosbie.

Named Mr Crosbie’s Great Aeronautic Adventure, the menu draws from the aeronaut’s dream of travelling the globe on a hot air balloon. However on 19 January 1785, after a few attempts, Crosbie was unable to descend beyond a fishing village near Dublin.
The team at The Coral Room say they want to echo his vision through the menu by celebrating the ‘cultures and stories of the places over which Crosbie dreamed of floating’.
Charting 16 destinations, serves include the Sishoni, which is described as a ‘delicate oriental Negroni’. Inspired by Japan, the drink consists of Ki No Tea Gin, Heavensake Junmai Ginjo, yuzu sherbet, Amaro Santoni and lychee.
Another drink, the Piñata, is dubbed a ‘homage to South America’. The cocktail is made by blending Abasolo Mexican Corn Whisky with Nixta Corn Liqueur, The Lost Explorer Mezcal Salmiana, coconut, lime and a smoky taco mix.

Other cocktails include the Koka Koala, which takes drinkers to the Australian outback (through a combination of Mr Black Coffee Amaro, macadamia, eucalyptus tincture, banana and lime); and the Botticelli, said to be influenced by Italian artistry and made with Altamura Vodka, extra virgin olive oil, Mancino Secco Vermouth and a fennel taralli cordial.
Each drink, priced at £17 (US$21), is also listed on the menu with imagery from illustrator Steve McCarthy.
To celebrate Mr Crosbie’s Great Aeronautic Adventure’s launch, The Coral Room will host bars from across the world – much like the menu’s theme – for a takeover series, starting with Venice’s Il Mercante Venezia on Wednesday 19 February.
The Coral Room is located in London’s Bloomsbury Hotel and opened in 2017.
Its bartender Jhon Ortega was shortlisted for Bartender of the Year at the 2024 Spirits Business Awards.
