Beach Bum Rum makes Northern Ireland debut
By Miona MadsenMauritian rum brand Beach Bum has launched in Northern Ireland with a signature ‘Avocado’ cocktail at The Merchant Hotel.

The Merchant Hotel in Belfast is the rum brand’s debut venue in Northern Ireland.
Aaron Dugan, general manager of The Cocktail Bar at The Merchant Hotel, commented on creating its signature cocktail: “Once I tasted Beach Bum Rum, I knew it was something I wanted on the menu.
“This drink took around two years to make. I knew I wanted a cocktail that wasn’t too sweet but still highlighted the light coconut aromas that naturally come through with the rum.
“The menu is all about being sustainable and minimising waste. Any garnishes used are edible, or the drink doesn’t have one.
“We take avocado pits from a local café called Harlem and use them to create an orgeat, which gives this drink an incredible nutty, earthy note and allows the rum to do its work. It has been a massive hit so far as we are the first bar in Ireland to have Beach Bum Rum.”
Now available exclusively at the hotel, the Avocado cocktail can be enjoyed for £14.95 (US$19).
Beach Bum Beverages was launched in 2020 by a Scottish entrepreneur, David Adamson.
Since its launch, the brand has gained listings in multiple markets, including the UK, Slovakia, India and Latvia.
The brand shared Dugan’s excitement: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with The Cocktail Bar at the Merchant Hotel, and it’s a real honour to have Beach Bum Rum featured at a venue of this prestige and history.
“As a business, we’ve had to re-organise our UK route to market post-Covid, and this is just step one of the process; more exciting news from mainland UK will be announced soon.”
