New Grove Rum hosts launch in Mauritius

Grays-owned New Grove Rum introduced its rebranded range to the press on 5 December at a pairing dinner in its Mauritius home.

The new branding, which was revealed in June 2024, pays homage to the distillery’s 20-year journey and the 200-year Mauritian traditions and heritage.

The new line includes five expressions: Beau Plan, Bon Espoir, five-year-old, 10-year-old and naturally flavoured Caramel.

The event was hosted at the brand’s home in Mauritius and culminated in a rum and menu pairing by chef Eva Harel.

Florence de Coriolis, rum brand manager at Grays, hosted the event, delving into the history of New Grove rums and the new packaging created in collaboration with the Beyond company.

Coriolis said: “Our four New Grove creations have been given a new look, echoing the soul of Mauritius. Bon Espoir and Beau Plan invite you to inject creativity into your blends, while our five- and 10-year-old selections remain the choice of connoisseurs, with an upbeat spirit and refined presentation.”

Chef Harel designed the evening’s menu to complement each expression.

New Grove Bon Espoir was served with an amuse-bouche of No 3 Fines de Claires IGP oysters and slivers of lemon marbles, while Beau Plan was accompanied with homemade foie gras and sweet orange jelly.

The foie gras with Beau Plan was said to bring out the expression’s fruit, vanilla, wood, caramel, and slightly smoky flavour with hints of sweet spices. The molasses rum owns its character to three years of ageing in ex-Cognac and Bourbon American oak barrels.

New Grove five-year-old was paired with a tartare of tuna, diced mango and a touch of avocado. The expression has been aged five years in French oak barrels that contained Cognac, resulting in fresh notes of yellow fruit, passion fruit, peach and mint.

For the main course, a beef cheek confit with redcurrant and infused with New Grove 10-year-old rum was served on a slice of palm kernel and accompanied by Negroni Vieilli.

For dessert, two crispy mini ice cream cones from Maison Ducarouge were served with New Grove Caramel, raisins, streusel chips and a hint of crunchy caramel.

Last October, Grays launched two new initiatives to improve its Lazy Dodo and Gecko Bay rum brand’s sustainability.

In November, New Grove Rum made The Spirit Business’ list of top 10 biggest brand glow-ups of 2024.
