Wild Atlantic unveils whiskey teaser
Irish distillery Wild Atlantic has released a teaser video for its inaugural whiskey release on the winter solstice, 21 December.
The opening of the cask number 001 of The IslandMen, named the 1921 Release, comes over a century after the closure of the region’s Watt Distillery in 1921.
The IslandMen is the first single malt release from Wild Atlantic Distillery, based in Aghyaran near the Donegal border.
The exclusive release of the single malt Irish whiskey will be approximately 350 bottles. The final yield will be known on the day the cask is bottled.
Following the bottling on 21 December, 195 bottles will be made available to the public through a lottery.
Those interested in securing one of the bottles can register at the distillery’s website up to 20 December.
The remaining bottles are reserved for 1921 Whiskey Club, Wild Atlantic Distillery’s whiskey club members.
All bottles from IslandMen Cask 001 will be numbered according to the order in which they were bottled.
Brian Ash, co-founder of Wild Atlantic Distillery, said: “The reaction from across the island of Ireland and internationally has been amazing. An independent third party will randomly select the fortunate participants on the day, who will then have the opportunity to purchase. So, keep an eye on your emails to ensure you don’t miss out on the chance to own a piece of history.”
According to the distillery’s co-founder, Jim Nash, 21 December will “mark a momentous occasion for the Northwest.”
Nash stated: “Over one hundred years after the last bottle of whiskey was distilled in the Tyrone and Derry region, we will bottle IslandMen for the first time. We are immensely proud to revive the rich tradition of Irish Whiskey making in the Northwest. IslandMen pays homage to the past, but we will be certain to raise a glass to the future. It’s a new beginning.”
Wild Atlantic Distillers was established in 2019 and also produces gin and vodka.
