Elsham Wold finishes single malt in rum casks
English distillery Elsham Wold has opened a ballot for its second single malt release, which was finished in the distillery’s own rum casks.
The second release in the distillery’s Flarepath series pays homage to the Royal Air Force Elsham Wolds station and the role of Wellington bomber aeroplanes during World War II, and the airmen who flew in them.
The release follows a successful inaugural single malt release from Elsham Wold distillery in October 2023, which sold out within 24 hours.
Crafted in North Lincolnshire using Yorkshire barley, the single malt was distilled in summer 2020.
The limited release whisky was initially aged in miniature ex-Bourbon casks and finished in the distillery’s own English rum casks for a minimum of 12 months.
According to Elsham Wold, the single malt whisky displays notes of buttery shortbread, tropical fruits, vanilla, toasted oak and sweet cinnamon spice.
The ballot is now open at the distillery’s website with only a limited amount of 700ml bottles available for £85 (US$110).
Established in 2018, Elsham Wold distillery offers a wide range of products, including whisky, Edwards 1902 English potato vodka and vodka liqueurs.
In March this year, the distillery’s Edwards 1902 vodka partnered with cordial brand Bottlegreen to launch its ready-to-drink (RTD) Spritz cocktail line.
Since its launch, the RTDs have secured listings in the UK with Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Co-op and Waitrose.
