London’s Crossroads closes
Newington Green bar Crossroads, created by Bart Miedeksza and Valentino Girotto, closed permanently and suddenly last week (28 August).
The team’s statement read: “With a heavy heart, we have to announce that we have been asked to vacate the premises with immediate effect and needed to shut the bar on Wednesday.
“While I don’t want to get into detail, we have been taken by surprise by this decision and therefore disappeared this week from the Newington Green map without a chance to give you (and ourselves) the opportunity to say goodbye.
“We would like to take a moment to thank all of you wonderful guests who supported us during our time here. You all made it worth it and we loved having you over at the bar.
“What now? While we regroup and put our thoughts and ideas in order, you’ll hopefully still see us here and there, with pop-ups or guest shifts. Please reach out if you have a space that needs activating!
“Crossroads became more than a bar some time ago – with our book Bubbles launching recently and our consultancy arm Crossroads Consulting, led by Bart Miedeksza and Valentino Girotto.
“We’re determined to focus our efforts on the training, creating wonderful drinks and helping with the installation of carbonation systems for other venues.
“We believe our contribution to the hospitality industry is not yet complete.
“We would also like to take a moment to thank our magnificent team for unrelenting support during this weird time. Some of us have now been left without a job and if your bar team needs brilliant people please reach out and we’ll put you in touch.
“Next week we’ll be in touch with everyone who had tables or events booked in the coming weeks and months.
“At Crossroads we have this saying that every challenge presents an opportunity. We’ll do our best to make the most of it. It’s not a goodbye.”
Crossroads opened in Newington Green in January 2023, after moving from its original location in Camden, which opened in 2020.
Miedeksza and Girotto’s book, Bubbles, launched at the bar last month. The book is centred around carbonation and was edited by winner of the Alan Lodge Award 2022 Millie Milliken.
