Bushmills unveils fifth Causeway Collection
By Georgie CollinsProximo Spirits-owned Bushmills Distillery has unveiled the line-up of its fifth annual Causeway Collection, featuring eight single malt whiskeys.
The eight new rare and exclusive expressions range from 10- to 23-years-old, and includes three ‘innovative’ firsts for Bushmills Irish Whiskey: the 10 Year Old Barolo, the 2010 Double Moscatel, and the 22 Year Old Mizunara.
The whiskeys in The Causeway Collection are counted among Bushmills’ ‘greatest treasures’, having been allowed to rest in ‘special’ casks for an unprecedented length of time.
Each whiskey has been selected by Bushmills’ master blender, Alex Thomas, who said: “This series is very special indeed. It includes a stunning Barolo cask-finish. Known as the ‘king of wines’ and the ‘wine of kings’, Barolo’s high quality and bold, powerful flavours were perfect for our Causeway Collection.
“For 2024 we have also included a 2010 Double Moscatel finish. Matured first exclusively in oloroso Sherry butts, it has been finished in two types of rare Portuguese moscatel casks and bottled at a natural cask strength of 49.1% ABV – a truly exquisite whiskey.”
The new expressions are said to epitomise Bushmills’ ‘thirst’ for the uncommon and the brand’s ‘unwavering commitment to never standing still’.
Thomas added: “I am deeply passionate about reimagining Irish single malt. The Causeway Collection gives us a platform to explore and envision where Irish single malt whiskey can go and what it can be.”
To celebrate the launch of this year’s collection, Bushmills has created the world’s first ‘whiskey wind down’ audio track, narrated by multi-award winning Northern Irish actor Colin Morgan – star of Belfast and BBC’s Merlin.
Designed by audio experts in collaboration with Thomas, the audio track was recorded at the Old Bushmills Distillery and was inspired by the dramatic landscape of The Giants Causeway. It allows whiskey lovers to ‘truly savour and connect’ with Bushmills’ Causeway Collection single malts and can be listened to at www.thecausewaycollection.com.
All eight whiskeys in the 2024 Causeway Collection have been bottled at cask strength, and range in price from US$101 – $507.
Previous Causeway Collections have utilised diverse casks including American oak, Sauternes and Cognac.
