Death & Co to open in Seattle
US bar operator Death & Co will launch its fifth site next summer, in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square.
The bar first opened in New York in 2006 and has since expanded with three other branches in the US: in Denver, Los Angeles and Washington DC.
Pencilled in for a summer 2025 opening, Death & Co Seattle will open in RailSpur, a micro district in the city’s Pioneer Square. The historic area has been preserved and revived by developer Urban Villages.
David Kaplan, founder and co-owner of Death & Co, said: “As a longtime admirer of Seattle’s cocktail scene – and now a proud resident for the past three years – we couldn’t be more excited to introduce Death & Co to Pioneer Square.
“This city’s incredible hospitality and love for exceptional food and beverage run deep, and we’re humbled to join this already thriving community. We look forward to collaborating with our immensely talented neighbours and welcoming guests next year.”
The bar will be situated on the ground floor of one of RailSpur’s three buildings, at 419 Occidental Ave next to Hotel Westland – which is scheduled to open soon.
The space and menu are said to ‘honour the area’s rich history while offering a contemporary and inviting atmosphere’ and will cater to ‘both locals and visitors alike looking for a post-work cocktail, a date-night destination and all the toast-worthy moments in between’.
Jon Buerge, president at Urban Villages, the developer of RailSpur, added: “We are thrilled to welcome Death & Co to RailSpur early next year. Its commitment to excellence, community, and authenticity aligns perfectly with Urban Villages’ vision of creating dynamic, sustainable neighbourhoods that people deeply connect with.
“Death & Co will significantly enhance and add vibrancy to the Pioneer Square community and greater Seattle, providing a lively gathering place for residents and visitors that further contributes to the city’s unique culture and spirit.”
Death & Co was co-founded by Ravi DeRossi, David Kaplan, and Alex Day. Its sites have garnered plenty of awards, such as at the Spirited Awards, where the Denver outpost was shortlisted for Best American Hotel Bar in 2020.
