Ukiyo debuts Tokyo Dry Gin

Drinksology Kirker Greer’s Japanese gin brand, Ukiyo Spirits, has launched a new expression: Ukiyo Tokyo Dry Gin.

The gin will retail for RRP £35 (US$44)

The gin has been made with Japanese botanicals such as yuzu peel, mikan peel, sakura flower, sakura leaf and sansho pepper. It was distilled in copper pot stills.

Ali Pickering, chief marketing officer at Drinksology, said: “These carefully chosen ingredients combine to express the diverse terroir and tastes of Japan – resulting in an elegant and delicately aromatic classic dry gin offering warm and well-balanced citrus and spice notes, and a smooth finish.”

Alongside its Japanese flavours, the gin also has traditional botanicals such as juniper, pepper, coriander, angelica root, lemon peel, cardamom and rosemary.

Its profile is said to bring juniper, pine, spice, menthol and herbal notes, with citrus, coriander and anise in the background.

Pickering added: “Tokyo Dry Gin is beautifully presented in Ukiyo’s iconic two-colour graduated bottle, a world-first design offering a stylish and uniquely Japanese aesthetic that reflects Ukiyo’s home by mirroring the mountains and oceans of Japan.”

The Tokyo Dry Gin will be available in February at select retailers across the UK, Australia and the Netherlands. It has an ABV of 40% and will retail for RRP £35 (US$44).

It joins Ukiyo Blossom (a floral dry gin) and Ukiyo Yuzu (a citrus dry gin) in the brand’s range.

Drinksology said the expression was aimed at 25-50 year-old city dwellers who love travelling and visiting high-end cocktail bars.

The company recently revealed plans to invest millions of pounds over the next three years to support its growth in the UK and Ireland.

As well as Ukiyo, its portfolio includes Irish whiskey Kirker Shamrock, Italian gin Ginato, and Irish gin Jawbox.
