The Drinks Trust and Barfection create training programme

The Drinks Trust is launching a training programme in partnership with Barfection, an organisation supporting underprivileged individuals in the drinks and hospitality industry.

The training programme provides practical support and guidance for workers in the industry

The ‘Barfection Academy’ programme is part of The Drinks Trust’s ‘Develop’ scheme, which offers practical support to individuals experiencing hardship to help them sustain a career in the industry.

Kingsland Drinks is also supporting the programme by offering funded places to tradespeople in the northwest of England and London from January 2024.

The course with Barfection will provide guidance for beneficiaries in four key areas: wine basics, cocktail mastery, beer insights, and personal selling and promotions.

Barfection was founded in 2017 with the intention of supporting disengaged youth by providing bespoke training, with placement opportunities in the hospitality industry.

Tom Nolan, founder of Barfection, said: “Barfection is a company that is built on giving people a chance. We’re thrilled to be able to work with companies such as The Drinks Trust and Kingsland Drinks, who share so many of our own values.”

Jo Taylorson, a member of Kingsland Drinks’ Thirsty Earth team, said: “We’re long-standing supporters of The Drinks Trust, having backed the charity for over a decade.

“We’ve championed the charity’s Develop programme for some time, focusing on building up the wealth of talent we have in our industry. It’s with pride that we team with them again, alongside Barfection.”

The Drinks Trust offers financial aid, wellbeing support and opportunities for skills development to people in the industry.

‘Develop’ is one of the charity’s various schemes, aiming to support workers in drinks and hospitality.

Recent research from The Drinks Trust and Kingsland Drinks in 2023 revealed most workers (96%) in the drinks industry want to undertake professional development initiatives to further their careers over the next 12 months.

Unemployed or low-income workers, below £26,000 (US$33,174) per year, can apply via The Drinks Trust website.
