Guatemalan Spirits introduces new rum Altabruma

Altabruma encompasses the ‘untamed spirit’ of Guatemala. We spoke to Guatemalan Spirits to learn more about this unique offering.

“This rum is actually built on the concept of a circular economy,” said Alexandra Alfaro, global marketing director, Guatemalan Spirits, during this year’s Bar Convent Berlin trade show. The producer has been crafting spirits for more than 80 years, and celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2020.

The company was certified as carbon neutral in June 2021. Its entire production chain generates zero emissions – meaning Altabruma is made with no carbon emissions.

The milling facilities reuse 100% of their energy, while distillation takes place in a pot still, which is “less industrial, less impactful, and more artisanal”, Alfaro added. The final Altabruma spirit has been designed to allow the character of the sugarcane shine through.

In addition to Altabruma, Guatemalan Spirits’ portfolio also includes rum brand Botran, which recently released four new variants. The four expressions were: Botran Roaju, Botran Cristalino, a supre-premium, aged white sipping rum; Botran Rare Blend Collection Ex-Agave Cask; and alcohol-free Botran No-Alc.
