NBA player Duncan Robinson backs Desolas mezcal
As part of its latest investment round from friends and family, mezcal brand Desolas has received funding from NBA star Duncan Robinson.
The financial backing from Robinson will close the latest friends-and-family round of investment.
Robinson, who currently plays for the Miami Heat team, shared his excitement about his involvement. He said: “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be aligned with such a high-quality product and team.
”GG [Mirvis, founder and CEO] and the team have worked tirelessly to curate a mezcal that stands apart from its peers. If you haven’t had the chance, make sure you check it out.”
Female-founded Desolas is handcrafted from 100% Salmiana agave in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and is said to have a low-botanical smoke flavour with notes of citrus and pepper, and an ‘elegant finish of vanilla’.
GG Mirvis, founder and CEO of Desolas, added: “We are extremely proud of Desolas’ continued trajectory, distribution and evolution.
“This latest investment round will allow us to continue to grow, scale and market. Adding great partners like Duncan Robinson is a testament to the quality and potential of the brand.”
As it accelerates its growth in the US this year, Desolas has also partnered with steakhouse Fogo de Chão, with venues in the Hamptons, and with Florida-based bar and restaurant chain Tap 42. In August, it made its Canadian debut.
Furthermore, Desolas won a Gold medal for its Blanco expression at The Tequila & Mezcal Masters 2023. The award was collected in the 100% Agave Mezcal – Joven – Artisinal – Salmiana heat, where the mezcal was praised for notes of “dark sugar, apple and pear”.
