The 2023 Whisky Live Paris show will take place this weekend (21-23 October) at La Grande Halle de la Villette.

Kavalan will showcase exclusive whiskies for the French market at the event, including an eight-year-old peated malt, a six-year-old oloroso Sherry cask, a seven-year-old Vinho Barrique and a nine-year-old Port cask.

Aurora Chang, Kavalan regional manager, expressed enthusiasm about the French market’s resurgence through the post-pandemic return of social gatherings and on-trade activities.

“Throughout the pandemic, Kavalan strategically boosted sales with cocktail-friendly options like the Kavalan Distillery Select series.

“Additionally, the premium Solist cask-strength whiskies addressed supply challenges in the Japanese whisky market.

“As we approach the final stages of our third maturation warehouse, reflecting our dedication to quality and expansion, Kavalan stands ready and optimistic about meeting the growing global demands.”

At Whisky Live Paris, the Kavalan booth will have a centrepiece with pink orchids that ‘embodies the brand’s distinct character’. A batten wall, inspired by Taiwanese windows, will be topped with a green roof that mirrors Yilan County’s ‘natural beauty’, while woodwork will symbolise Kavalan’s oak casks.

Didier Ghorbanzadeh, global ambassador for Kavalan’s European distributor, La Maison du Whisky, commented: “When experiencing Kavalan’s whiskies for the first time, the surprising maturity, despite its youth, is attributed to the unique tropical ageing conditions in Taiwan. This distinct characteristic sets it apart from the single malts we already distribute in Europe.

“While diverse oak influences (Sherry, wine, etc) are beautifully expressed with intense aromas, Kavalan is distinct for its explosive tropical fruit flavours on the midpalate and finish, offering refreshing purity to balance the oak’s influence.”

This year, Kavalan launched in Ontario and Sweden.

The Taiwanese brand received 12 Gold awards and one Silver at The World Whisky Masters 2023.
