Powerscourt Distillery concludes Estate Series

Irish producer The Powerscourt Distillery has launched an Amarone cask-matured single malt whiskey as the final expression in its Estate Series.

The third and final release in Fercullen whiskey’s Estate Series, The Gates, is a combination of Bourbon and Amarone cask-matured whiskeys.

It contains some of the first whiskey distilled in County Wicklow in more than 100 years, and follows the release of the brand’s inaugural single malt in April.

The first expression in the Amarone-influenced range was Amarone cask-finished single grain whiskey, The Mill House, followed by the second bottling, blended whiskey Italian Gardens.

John Cashman, head of brand and new product development for The Powerscourt Distillery, said: “The Gates is a fitting finale to our Estate Series with the introduction of our own Powerscourt-distilled single malt whiskey.

“We have continued our Amarone influence with a marriage of fully matured Amarone cask whiskey with ex-Bourbon matured whiskey. Following our Fercullen Single Malt release in April, ‘The Gates’ see us continue to release the spirit of Wicklow to the world.”

The 46% ABV whiskey is available to buy from select retailers nationwide and from the Powerscourt Distillery and the brand’s website. The limited edition whiskey is priced at €75 (US$83).

The new liquid is said to offer an aroma of fruit meringue, strawberry, cherry, plum, lime, mint, apple and hay.

Flavours of vanilla, honey, custard drizzled over poached summer fruits, and digestive biscuits follow on the palate, with a finish of fruit pudding and soft oak spice.

Last month, Powerscourt Distillery revealed it would invest €25 million (US$27.4m) into its global growth plans.

Earlier this year, Fercullen entered the States through a distribution partnership with Zamora Company.
