Tequila brand Sierra has tapped into the low-ABV trend with the launch of a lower-strength expression infused with tropical fruits.

Brand owner Borco created Sierra Tropical Chilli due to the ‘positive development’ of Tequila in Germany and internationally.

The new expression offers flavours of mango, passion fruit and a hint of chilli. It is made with a base of Sierra Tequila Blanco and bottled at 18% ABV.

The launch of Sierra Tropical Chilli was celebrated at an event at Bermuda bar in Hamburg, Germany.

The ‘World Party Day’ event on 3 April saw 150 guests in attendance from the bar and restaurant world, alongside influencers and business partners.

Guests were entertained by music from DJ Farriz, dancers from the Fashion Time International agency, and body painter Diana from SumBodyArt.

Announcing the product at the event was Jessica Lopez, Sierra Tequila’s brand ambassador, and Mario Kappes, global advocacy and education manager at Borco, who was behind the creation of the new expression.

Speaking at the event, Lopez said the new expression aims to “take your party to the next level”, following the brand’s motto of ‘lead the party’.

“With the unique blend of exotic fruits and the spiciness of chilli, Sierra Tropical Chilli will send your taste buds on an exciting journey and delight your party guests,” she said.

“With this innovation we join the trend of low-ABV drinks. We offer an alternative for those who drink less alcohol but don’t want to give up the party mood. Sierra Tropical Chilli is served as a shot – perfect for all kinds of parties.”

Tropical Chilli made its debut in the German on-trade in March, followed by the off-trade in April.

The 500ml bottle will be available to buy in UK supermarket Tesco from July.

The brand’s Milenario Extra Añejo took home the top Taste Master accolade in this year’s Tequila & Mezcal Masters competition.
