Four Roses enters new era with limited releases
By Miona MadsenBourbon brand Four Roses has unveiled the inaugural release of its Experimental Series, finished in Japanese mizunara oak casks.

The new limited release collection is said to challenge the brand’s traditional 10-recipe framework, marking a new era of innovation under Gallo’s ownership.
Brent Elliott, master distiller of Four Roses Bourbon, said:”This series is an exciting new chapter for us. It allows us to take the craftsmanship that’s been at the heart of Four Roses and apply it in entirely new ways, experimenting with finishes and techniques that reveal dimensions of flavour our fans haven’t experienced before.
“For me, it’s about pushing boundaries while staying true to the character of Four Roses Bourbon, and giving our fans the chance to join us on that journey of discovery.”
The inaugural release, Four Roses Experimental Series No.001, is a Kentucky straight Bourbon made with a rye-forward OBSK mash bill, aged for six years, and finished in Japanese mizunara oak barrels.
Extensive trials were conducted on recipes, yeast strains, barrel specifications, and combinations of toast and char to determine the best pairing for the mizunara oak’s spice-layered flavour profile.
The release is presented in a 375ml bottle that features a front label inspired by the Spanish Mission-style architecture of the Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
The back label showcases one of the brand’s historic single-story rickhouses, highlighting how maturation and barrel finishing shape the whiskey’s character.
Experimental Series No.001 sits at 52% ABV and will be available at the distillery’s visitor centre in Lawrenceburg from 30 July, with an SRP of US$55.

Anthology Series
Earlier this month, Four Roses announced the launch of its new ultra-premium annual series called Anthology.
The series inaugural expression, Chapter One: Origin, is the brand’s oldest bottling to date. The 21-year-old Bourbon was made with the OBSF (60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley) recipe.
For Elliott, the release represents more than just age; it symbolises the brand’s legacy.
“With Anthology, we wanted to create a series that allows us to tell the deeper stories behind Four Roses through rare and intentional releases,” he explained. “Chapter One: Origin pays tribute to the moment that inspired our name and the values of connection and passion that continue to define our brand today.”
Chapter One: Origin is limited to approximately 1,200 bottles and has an ABV of 62.45%.
The release will be available exclusively at the Four Roses Visitor Centre starting 10 July and at the Whiskey Row event on 11 July, with a suggested retail price of US$500.
