Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February, forcing distilleries such as Xdar and Nemiroff to cease production to protect their employees.

The Xdar distillery is based in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine. It employs more than 4,400 members of staff, some of whom have joined the Ukrainian army.

Natalya Kolosok, of Liquorum Imports, the US importer of Xdar, said: “The people at Xdar are committed to their employees. They are some of the strongest people in the world.

“The employees, while grateful for the assistance, don’t just want a check, they want purpose. They want to work, which is why, as safely as possible, Xdar opened up their facility to resume production.”

Xdar is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has created more than 100 recipes of distilled beverages over the last two decades. Part of its innovation work includes 18 pending patents.

Before the Russia-Ukraine war, the distillery was able to produce more than 150 million bottles per year. In 2021, the brand sold more than eight-million cases globally.

Xdar’s import and distribution partners, including Bayadera Group in Eastern Europe, have pledged financial support to Ukraine since the war broke out.

Bayadera Group has officially donated more than US$150,000 to Ukrainian troops.

Meanwhile, Royal Wine Corp, Xdar’s distributor in New York and New Jersey in the US, has donated all proceeds from March sales to Ukrainian relief efforts, equal to more than US$100,000.

Mordy Herzog, CEO of Royal Wine Corp, added: “The drive and determination of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity is truly amazing, and we look forward to raising awareness for this incredible company.

“The amount of support we’ve seen has been incredible. People want to do what they can to help, and the more vodka we sell, the more people we can bring back to work.”

Xdar vodka is rested for 24 hours after distillation. It then goes through an eight-stage filtration process before being bottled at 40% ABV. The vodka retails for US$16 on Drizly in the US.
