Top 10 spirits launches in March 2022

From rapper Asap Rocky’s whisky to Bulleit Bourbon’s ready-to-drink cocktails, here are last month’s most exciting new bottlings.

Asap Rocky’s new Mercer + Prince whisky earned a spot on our list

Spirits brands welcomed the change of season with a variety of product launches last month.

Scotch whisky maker The Dalmore harnessed the NFT trend to entice consumers, and several producers – including Bulleit and Brown-Forman – catered to the thirst for ready-made cocktails with new bottled serves.

Meanwhile, famous faces joined the whisky sector: rapper Asap Rocky debuted a Canadian bottling, and Formula One driver Jenson Button created a Scotch brand.

Read on to discover the 10 new bottlings that caught our eye in March.

Dalmore 33 Years Old

Dalmore 33 Years whisky

Last month, The Dalmore unveiled a 33-year-old single malt with an accompanying NFT – a digital certificate of ownership.

The Highland producer created 223 bottles of the Scotch whisky, which sits at 51% ABV and offers notes of cassis, blackberries, citrus, marzipan, liquorice and soft spices.

The bottles, drawn from a single cask, were sold on NFT platform Block Bar for US$8,800 each. The first 10 buyers of the whisky also received an invitation to a VIP visit at The Dalmore distillery.

Dead Man’s Fingers Reposado

Looking for a new Tequila to add to your collection? Rum brand Dead Man’s Fingers moved into the category in March with the launch of a reposado expression.

Sitting at 40% ABV, the Tequila was matured in Bourbon barrels, giving it notes of vanilla and honey.

The bottling is available to purchase from Booker and Tesco stores in the UK, priced at RRP £22 (US$28) per 700ml bottle.

Gordon’s flavoured gins

Flavoured gin fans, take note: Diageo-owned gin brand Gordon’s has expanded its range with Morello Cherry and Tropical Passionfruit variants.

Gordon’s Tropical Passionfruit Distilled Gin aims to ‘balance the juniper notes’ of the brand’s flagship spirit with passionfruit flavours, while Gordon’s Morello Cherry Distilled Gin brings together tart cherries with the brand’s London Dry liquid.

Both gins sit at 40% ABV and are priced at RRP £16.50 (US$21.60) per 700ml.

Coachbuilt Whisky

Formula One racing driver Jenson Button made his spirits industry debut with the launch of Coachbuilt Whisky.

To create the Scotch, Button collaborated with whisky expert George Koutsakis.

Coachbuilt is a blend of spirits from all five whisky-making regions of Scotland: Islay, Speyside, Campbeltown, the Highlands and Lowlands. The liquids were combined in Sherry casks, resulting in notes of summer fruits, subtle spice, toffee, chocolate and citrus.

The whisky clocks in at 46% ABV and is available to buy online for RRP £42 (US$55).

Svedka Tropics Tea Spritz

Vodka brand Svedka made moves in the hard seltzer space with its new line of tea-infused canned serves.

The Svedka Tropics Tea Spritz range features three variants: Pineapple Guava, Raspberry Kiwi, and Orange Mango. Each is made with vodka, tea, sparkling water and ‘natural’ tropical fruit flavours.

The Svedka team said the new product was created in response to the rising demand for spirit-based hard seltzers. A four pack is priced at US$12.99.

Last month was a big one for vodka brands launching RTDs, as Cîroc and Grey Goose also debuted canned Spritzes.

Up or Over bottled cocktails

Spirits giant Brown-Forman appealed to cocktail enthusiasts with the release of a range of pre-mixed serves.

The Up or Over collection features four drinks, each made with one of the firm’s spirits.

The Classic Dry Martini contains Ford’s Gin; the Whisky Sour uses Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey; the Premium Margarita is made with Herradura Tequila; and the Ginger Citrus Old Fashioned has Old Forester Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

The bottled cocktails are available in Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Oregon and Washington.

Mercer + Prince whisky

American rapper Asap Rocky joined forces with E&J Gallo to create a Canadian whisky brand called Mercer + Prince.

The 40% ABV blended whisky was matured for more than four years in American white oak barrels, with a touch of Japanese mizunara oak.

It was designed to be “accessible for all”, Rocky said. The bottle comes with two cups attached at either end, to allow consumers to immediately pour a drink for themselves and a friend.

Mercer + Prince will be available to buy in the US this summer for US$29.99.

The Craigellachie Collection

Former Macallan whisky maker Sarah Burgess has developed a line of sodas with Speyside whisky hotel The Craigellachie.

The range, set to roll out this month, includes a sparkling water, a still water, a tonic water, a light tonic water, a ginger ale and a grapefruit soda. Each drink is made with Speyside botanicals, and can be mixed with a variety of spirits.

In the future, Burgess plans to create spirits under The Craigellachie hotel label, as well as a collection of tea-infused sodas – watch this space.

Jameson 15 Years Old Single Pot Still

Jameson 15 Pot Still whiskey

Irish whiskey brand Jameson unveiled a 15-year-old single pot still expression as the first release in its new Anthology collection. The bottling is the producer’s first single pot still variant since 2000.

The 56.4% ABV whiskey is made from three styles aged between 15 and 17 years in American Bourbon barrels and oloroso Sherry butts.

Limited to 2,220 bottles, the expression is priced at RRP €300 (US$334).

Bulleit bottled cocktails

Diageo-owned Bulleit Bourbon tapped into the ready-to-drink (RTD) trend last month with its new bottled cocktails.

The Bulleit Manhattan and Bulleit Old Fashioned were developed with the help of bartenders. Each serve sits at 37.5% ABV and can be served chilled and neat or over ice.

The RTDs are priced at US$29.99 per 750ml.
