The Ruby Anniversary Edition celebrates 40 years since Joy Spence joined Appleton Estate

The Ruby Anniversary Edition is a blend of five Jamaican rums that were aged for at least 35 years. The oldest liquid in the blend is 45 years old.

Only 500 bottles are available via the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Retail Rum Experience in Jamaica and select retailers.

Tasting notes include aromas of cinnamon and minty orange, leading to flavours of apple, vanilla, butterscotch, coffee and toasted oak on the palate. Molasses and spiced honey appear on the finish.

Spence said: “Forty years ago, I had the opportunity to channel my passion, talent and knowledge into a role at Appleton Estate. I was honoured to join one of the most revered world-class brands, in the place I call home.

“Forty years later, from luxury editions to permanent expressions, I am still immensely proud to continue to innovate and produce luxurious aged rums at the highest quality standards, suited for every occasion.

“Since 1981, my goal has been to create the world’s most exquisite, refined aged rums and to share them with the world.

“This special edition marks a milestone for me and was created using some of the finest stock in our over 200,000 barrels.”

In April 2020, Appleton Estate, owned by Campari Group, revealed a brand revamp and a new eight-year-old expression.

Last year, The Spirits Business delved into Caribbean rum and producers’ fight to protect provenance.
