Heaven’s Door expands Bootleg line

American whiskey brand Heaven’s Door, co-founded by singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, has unveiled its Bootleg Series Vol III bottling.

The 13-year-old bottle displays Dylan’s Sunday Afternoon painting

The Bootleg Series is a range of rare whiskey blends that are released annually. The collection saw its inaugural release in 2019, followed by the second expression in 2020.

“I really look forward to each year’s Bootleg release, as it’s our opportunity to introduce some of our rarest and most innovative whiskeys,” said Heaven’s Door master blender, Ryan Perry.

The most recent release, Vol III, is a 13-year-old cask strength Kentucky Bourbon, which has been finished in vino de naranja (orange wine) casks from Spain.

“The Bootleg Series Vol III allowed us to experiment with our first ever Kentucky Bourbon release, one of which was aged for 13 years before our vino de naranja barrel finishing – pretty amazing,” added Perry.

“We’re really pleased with the final result, I just wish we had more bottles to offer all our loyal fans.”

Only 3,949 bottles are available of the whiskey, with each individually numbered and bound in a leather case.

The line was named in honour of Dylan’s album collection Bootleg, which contains unreleased recordings by the folk singer.

Bottled at 60.6% ABV, Vol III delivers hints of grilled peach, buttered popcorn and rye on the nose. Meanwhile, the palate presents a flavour profile of honey, black pepper, cherry and toasted oak, rounding off with a cream soda and candied orange finish.

The limited edition whiskey is presented in a handmade ceramic bottle, featuring the painting Sunday Afternoon by Dylan.

Consumers can buy the latest release for RRP US$545, both online through or from select retailers in the US.

Earlier this year, Heaven’s Door teamed up with Redbreast Irish whiskey to create The Master Blenders’ Edition.
