Glasgow Distillery releases limited edition whiskies

The Glasgow Distillery Company has unveiled three limited edition cask-finished variants of its 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Each of the limited edition whiskies is restricted to two bottles per person

The three whiskies are individually numbered, and will launch on Glasgow Distillery’s website from tomorrow (18 November) at 10am GMT.

The new expressions include the unpeated Ruby Port Cask Finish, the triple distilled Tokaji Cask Finish and the peated Sauternes Cask Finish. The whiskies are non-chill-filtered.

Liam Hughes, CEO and co-founder of the distillery, commented: “Something that sets us apart from most other distilleries is that we make three very distinct styles of single malt whisky at The Glasgow Distillery.

“Unpeated, peated and triple distilled spirit is a key feature of our annual production calendar and is characterised within our Glasgow 1770 Signature Range.

“I’m really proud to be able to offer these three releases as an insight into what we get to see every day working at the distillery – innovation, experimentation and above all a commitment to quality.”

Just 380 bottles of the 53% ABV Tokaji Cask Finish will be released, while 467 bottles of the Ruby Port Cask Finish will be available to buy, which sits at 56.2% ABV. The Sauternes Cask Finish has an outrun of 486 bottles, and clocks in at 53.7% ABV.

Mike Hayward, co-founder and director of distillery and brands, worked with varying wine casks used to finish the three new releases.

He noted that the Ruby Port Cask Finish “balances [the] sweet and fruity unpeated spirit with lovely notes of strawberries and cream”, and delivers a sweet and spicy finish of pink peppercorns.

Meanwhile, the Tokaji Cask Finish uses this Hungarian dessert wine cask to “impart sweet and honeyed notes combined with hints of toffee apples, poached pears and apricot preserve”.

Finally, the Sauternes Cask Finish is an expression which has matured in French dessert wine casks, to present “notes of sweet and smoky barbecue sauce, toffee and salted caramel with a deep earthy finish”.

“It’s definitely one for any peat-heads,” Hayward commented of the Sauternes Cask Finish.

Each release is restricted to two bottles per person.

The distillery launched its first batch of single malt Scotch whisky in 2018, kicking off its Signature Range series. The final whisky was added last year.
