Rita Ora seeks to ‘push boundaries’ with Tequila brand

Pop star Rita Ora has launched Próspero Tequila in the UK and hopes to “push boundaries” in the industry with the female-founded brand.

British singer Ora launched Próspero Tequila in the US last year after joining forces with spirits marketing firm Conecuh Brands. Available in blanco, reposado and añejo variants, the Tequila is produced at the Don Roberto Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico, by Stella Anguiano.

Since launching, Ora said the reaction to Próspero Tequila in the US has been “fantastic” and “very positive”.

“I’m very, very, very happy with that,” she told The Spirits Business. “This is the first time that I’m launching it at home [the UK] and it’s really important, I’m really looking forward to it.

“I feel like there is no pressure at home, I almost feel like I’m excited. I just want people to see it and be like ‘oh I wonder what Rita’s Tequila tastes like’.”

Ora said she was inspired to enter the spirits industry after meeting Anguiano and hearing about her work in the sector. The Let me Love You singer said she believes that her collaboration with the female master distiller on the product will help her “push boundaries” in the industry.

“I looked into the spirits industry a bit more and I feel like there was really a market or a big space for women bosses who can have their own spirit,” Ora said.

“It’s usually like wine or Prosecco and I feel like this was such a male-dominated aspect of alcohol that I was like ‘why not try and get into this game’ and really have a great shot at it.

“I feel like it’s really working well and everything from the bottle, which is handmade, to the experience that I shared making it was just awesome. So I do feel like this project really comes from the heart.”

Próspero Tequila is available to purchase in the UK at department store Selfridges, priced at £49.99 (US$67) for the blanco, £59.99 (US$80) for the reposado Tequila and £62.99 (US$84) for the añejo expression.

Ora joins a host of famous faces that have entered the agave spirits industry in recent years, including Fast & Furious actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston.
