Dos Hombres Mezcal, founded by Breaking Bad actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, has launched in the UK through department store Selfridges.

Cranston and Paul, who starred in the acclaimed AMC show Breaking Bad, announced the launch of their mezcal brand on social media in July 2019.

Dos Hombres (42% ABV) is made using espadin agave, the piñas from the plants are cooked in earthen pits to release their sugars before being crushed using a tahona wheel. After fermenting for seven to 10 days, Dos Hombres mezcal is distilled in copper stills. The brand is made in the village of San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca, by third-generation mezcal maker, Gregorio Velasco.

“We love all things mezcal,” said Paul. “Love the process and the community behind this beautiful spirit. What sets Dos Hombres apart is the smoothness of the mezcal; we wanted to find one that everyone would love, even people that have never tried it before.

“Something inviting yet with the slight smoke that people love about the spirit. If you love spirits, you’ll love Dos Hombres.”

Dos Hombres offers aromas of apples and espadin agave, along with mango and zapote fruit notes, a hint of wood and a “discreet smoky finish”.

The unaged mezcal is recommended served neat, over ice or in cocktails.

Selfridges buyer, Terry Threlfall, said: “The arrival of Dos Hombres in the UK has been hotly anticipated and we’re delighted to be launching it this summer. For those not in the know, mezcal is Tequila’s smokier, smoother cousin and is set to be the next big thing in spirits. Dos Hombres is truly unique and versatile, and we’re excited for customers to try it.”

Dos Hombres Mezcal is available to buy exclusively at Selfridges’ Oxford Street store in London and online, priced at £69.99 (US$91.80) per 700ml bottle.
