Swift to open second London bar in Shoreditch

Award-winning cocktail bar Swift will open its second London venue this month, an all-day drinking destination in Shoreditch.

The new Swift Shoreditch site

Following the “roaring success” of the Soho site, the new Swift Shoreditch bar will open in late July 2020 at 93 Great Eastern Street. The site will operate with physical distancing guidelines.

The venue will differ to the original concept by offering an all-day bar, which will open from 8am on weekdays and 11am on weekends. The venue will serve artisanal coffee and brunch-style dishes, as well as cocktails.

Soho venue Swift was opened by husband-and-wife team Mia Johansson and Bobby Hiddleston in 2016, backed by fellow couple and Nightjar and Oriole founders Rosie Stimpson and Edmund Weil.

A year after opening, the two-floor venue was named Best New International Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards. It was also recently nominated for Best International Cocktail Bar in the Spirited Awards 2020.

The bartending couple told SB in 2018 that it was looking at opening another Swift in London and owned the rights to the brand in Europe.

“Around the world, our beloved hospitality industry has been deeply affected by the catastrophic impact of Covid-19,” said Johansson.

“Whilst we’re all still in uncertain times and have a long road ahead of us on our way to recovery, we have faith in the British public’s love of coming together for great food and drink and are hopeful that London’s world-class cocktail scene will rebuild itself to come back stronger than ever.

“Sticking to our plan to open our second site is just the embodiment of our faith in this and we are so excited to start hosting guests again.”

Swift Shoreditch will offer the Soho venue’s “buzzy aperitivo” ground-floor bar as its base and “classic European elegance”. The new site will be “elegant and bright” with touches of Art Deco, while the bar counter will be lined with high chairs and banquette-style seating.

The bar will offer apéritif-style cocktails all day, including Swift’s Spritz menu and its signature Sgroppino and Irish Coffee serves. The food offering includes all-day dining options, as well as to-go items and Neal’s Yard toasties.

Meanwhile, Swift in Soho will reopen this Saturday (4 July) as England’s on-trade venues were given the green light to start trading again as coronavirus lockdown measures are eased.

In March this year, Swift unveiled a new cocktail menu that celebrates its Soho home.
