Slingsby Sofa Sessions

Yorkshire-based Slingsby Gin will host another instalment in its Sofa Sessions Series, this time celebrating the first ever virtual Chelsea Flower Show.

After the renowned London flower festival was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Slingsby will welcome award-winning Chelsea Flower Show gardener Matthew Wilson to its Sofa Sessions to discuss planting and maintaining a herb garden at home.

The live streamed event will be available to watch on Slingsby’s social media channels on Saturday 23 May at 3pm BST.

European Online Rum Festival

UK-based Rum Cask will this weekend host the “world’s first” European Online Rum Festival, which will run on Saturday 23 May from 4pm until 10pm BST.

The festival will feature presenters from brands such as Plantation Rum, Don Q, Montanya, Rhum Damoiseau and Ron Artesano. There will also be Q&A sessions for attendees.

The event will include appearances from distillery owners, rum blenders, ambassadors and other brand representatives, and more information about how to take part can be found at rumcask.designmynight.com.

The Whisky Lockdown Hoedown

Paul Archibald and Felipe Schrieberg will bring their musical whisky tasting duo The Rhythm and Booze Project online this weekend for the The Whisky Lockdown Hoedown.

The live streamed combination of a gig and whisky tasting will unite whisky, music and mischief.

The event will be live streamed on the Rhythm and Booze Project Facebook page, and is free to join. The show kicks off at 6pm BST on Saturday 23 May.

Smokehead TV

Smokehead Scotch whisky is back this Sunday (24 May) with the latest episode in its Smokehead TV series on Instagram Live (@smokeheadwhisky).

The Headin to Holland episode will feature the brand’s Dutch ambassador Joël de Kock, who will discuss Dutch drinking culture, mixing Smokehead whisky and taking a virtual tour of three Dutch cities.

The live stream will be broadcast on Instagram this Sunday at 5pm BST.

Sunday Porch Session

On Sunday, American whiskey fans can join Beam Suntory’s Kentucky Bourbon brand ambassador, Beth Burrows, for the Sunday Porch Sessions. 

Live streaming on Instagram (@jimbeamdistillery), the session will see Burrows speak with eighth-generation Beam distiller Freddie Noe to discuss 225 years of Beam history. 

Noe will be live from the front porch of the T Jeremiah Beam Home in Clermont, Kentucky, at 6pm EST.

Mother Knows Best Cocktail Hotline

For those looking to mix up their favourite cocktails at home this weekend, Newcastle’s Mother Mercy has launched its Mother Knows Best Cocktail Hotline.

Available through WhatsApp, the hotline will offer the expertise of the bar’s team to help answer any cocktail queries from the country’s isolating imbibers.

Open on Whatsapp messenger from 11am-11pm every day for quick and simple tips, tricks, recipes and spirit suggestions, the helpline can be contacted at +44 (0) 7592 094 930.

Grey Goose House Pour

French vodka brand Grey Goose has continued its House Pour series this week with the latest instalment, which features Chicago-based bartender Kristina Magro.

The online series showcases a selection of bartenders’ favourite serves, and this week Magro highlights her Don’t Gentian It serve, a mix of Grey Goose vodka, Gentian liqueur, lime juice, blueberry jam and fresh basil.

Through the series, Grey Goose hopes to support bartenders around the world by recruiting them to create online cocktail-making videos. Each episode is available to watch on the brand’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Laphroaig online tasting

Islay Scotch whisky brand Laphroaig will this week host an online whisky tasting as part of the online iteration of the Fèis Ìle Scotch whisky festival.

Taking place on Monday 26 May, the live streamed tasting will be hosted by master ambassador Simon Brooking and Laphroaig distillery manager, John Campbell. The session will feature tastings of Laphroaig 10 Year Old, Laphroaig Quarter Cask and Laphroaig Lore.

To join the virtual tasting, whisky enthusiasts can register at the Laphroaig website ahead of the live tasting event from Laphroaig on 26 May from 6.15pm BST.

The Whisky Exchange Japanese whisky showcase

Spirits retailer The Whisky Exchange will round off its series of online tastings this week with a Japanese whisky showcase.

Taking place on 28 May, the online whisky tasting will be lead by James Bowker, ambassador for Japanese whisky maker Suntory, and will be the culmination of the retailer’s World Whisky Month tastings.

Viewers can taste along with the Japanese whisky showcase by purchasing a specially-curated Perfect Measure sample pack for each session from The Whisky Exchange.

Salcombe Virtual Gin School

UK-based Salcombe Gin has launched its Home Gin Schooling programme, which offers three virtual gin workshops for drinks fans to enjoy at home.

The South Devon distillery, which has been forced to close its waterside bar and distillery to the public, is now offering a virtual gin school experience, which includes the chance to create a bespoke gin recipe that can be delivered to your door.
