The Booze Brain

Today (15 May) at 2pm BST, Vijay Mudaliar, co-owner of Singapore bar Native, will feature on episode 26 of The Booze Brain on Instagram (@theboozebrain).

Mudaliar runs one of the most sustainable bars in the world and places an emphasis on using local products. He will give an insight into the operations and inspiration behind Native.

Jameson tour

To celebrate World Whisky Day tomorrow (16 May), Irish whiskey brand Jameson will host a virtual live stream on Youtube of its Bow St Distillery in Dublin.

At 3pm EST, Jameson will also host special guests who will provide entertainment and education during the broadcast. Viewers will also learn from bartenders across the world on how to create Irish whiskey cocktails and have the chance to tune into a once-in-a-lifetime virtual concert from one of Ireland’s top musicians.

Lakes Distillery’s World Whisky Day celebration

English producer The Lakes Distillery will also celebrate World Whisky Day tomorrow (16 May) with a free virtual event, featuring three master distillers.

At 5pm BST, Dhavall Gandhi, whiskymaker at The Lakes Distillery, will be joined by Tomer Goren, master distiller at Israel’s Milk & Honey distillery, and Michael D’Souza, master distiller at India’s Paul John Distilleries, to discuss the different methods and techniques being used by whisky distillers across the world.

The event will be available to watch on the @thelakesdistillery Facebook page.

Slingsby Sofa Session

Tomorrow (16 May) at 6pm BST, Slingsby Gin will return with its fourth Slingsby Sofa Session.

A Slingsby Gin mixologist will go live on Instagram and Facebook with a 30-minute gin distilling demo.

Ahead of the session, Slingsby will ask its followers to vote for the flavour of gin they want to see created, as well as the botanicals they want included.

One consumer will have the chance to win the gin made during the session through a competition which will run across Slingsby’s social media channels.

World Whisk(e)y Summit

Tomorrow (16 May) at 7pm BST, independent whisky bottler That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC) will host the World Whisk(e)y Summit on Zoom. It will also be available to view on Facebook Live (@boutiqueywhisky).

The event will be run by the hosts of TBWC’s Uncorked Whisky Sessions podcast and will include guests such as whisky writer Dave Broom, Andy Watts of Three Ships Distillery, Nicole Austin of George Dickel distillery, and many more.

The summit invites viewers to learn more about whisky from across the globe and also take part in whisky-themed games.

TBWC is recommending viewers to enjoy its World Whisky Blend in a Highball during the session. It is on offer on Master of Malt with a £5 off code using WORLD5 at checkout.

The event is free to attend but donations to The Drinks Trust charity are encouraged.

Big Fat Online Whisky Quiz

Tomorrow (16 May) at 8pm BST, World Whisky Day founder Blair Bowman, along with Chris White, Joseph Trotter and Matthew Cordiner, will host a digital whisky quiz, with a special focus on world whisky.

The one-hour quiz, which will be live-streamed on Facebook, asks for teams of five or under to take part.

Instead of charging a ticket fee, participants are asked to make a suggested donation of £5 to The Drinks Trust charity here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/worldwhiskyday-bfwq.

Reyka ‘self-iso’ half marathon

Reyka Vodka has organised a ‘self-iso’ half marathon to raise money for The Drinks Trust charity, as well as to keep bartenders motivated to maintain mental and physical wellbeing during the pandemic.

Taking place at 11am BST this Sunday (17 May), the group of Reyka Runners will all run individually at the same time for 13.1 miles.

All funds raised, up to £5,000 (US$6,100), will be double-matched by Reyka owner William Grant & Sons’ Matched Giving Scheme, as part of the company’s Stand Fast Campaign. Pop-up bar provider, D&D Drinks, will also donate 10% of all sales for the next two weeks.

Supporters can either donate, run, or share the Just Giving page.

Smokehead TV

This Sunday (17 May) at 5pm BST, Islay Scotch whisky Smokehead will host episode six in its Smokehead TV series on Instagram Live (@smokeheadwhisky).

Smokehead’s brand ambassador Mikey Sim will be joined by whisky fan and Scottish rugby player Matt Scott.

Sim will be mixing up cocktails inspired by Scott’s tours to Japan, South Africa and Argentina.

Viewers will also have the chance to win Smokehead merchandise and learn about life on tour with Scott.

Whisky for Everyone

This Sunday (17 May) at 6pm BST, the Whisky for Everyone blog will be hosting an Instagram Live event (@whisky4everyone), featuring Texas-based singer-songwriter Jarod Dickenson as a special guest.

Hosted by Whisky for Everyone‘s founders Matt Chambers (pictured) and Karen Taylor, the session will see the duo discuss music and whisky with Dickenson.

Fever-Tree seminar series

Fever-Tree Canada has created a series of free digital seminars for hospitality employees who are unable to work during the pandemic.

The workshops will run every Tuesday at 1pm EST and will feature subjects such as how to make the most of transferable skills, maximising online resources, cover letter writing, interview skills, negotiation skills and budget management on a lean income.
