Whisky.Auction charity sale raises £104k

Online auctioneer Whisky.Auction has raised £104,184.25 (US$130,160) from its charity sale this month, which will be donated to The Drinks Trust to help industry workers during the pandemic.

This Karuizawa bottle was donated by Elixir Distillers for the Covid-19 Charity Auction in aid of The Drinks Trust

The auction was held from 5 April until 14 April as part of a collaboration between Whisky.Auction, The Whisky Exchange, Speciality Drinks and Speciality Brands. All funds raised from the sale will go to The Drinks Trust’s Covid-19 Emergency Fund.

The auction featured 470 lots donated from businesses and individuals from the drinks sector.

Isabel Graham-Yooll, auction director at Whisky.Auction said: “We were overwhelmed by the number and quality of the bottles donated by our friends across the drinks and hospitality industry.

“Everyone has pulled together to help us raise this amazing figure to support The Drinks Trust who, in turn, are supporting those who keep our hospitality industry running every day in their time of need.”

One of six bottles of the Karuizawa Omoiyari blend, bottled by Elixir Distillers in 2020, sold for £25,000 (US$31,238) during the auction. It was made using spirit distilled between 1963 and 1984 and built around a base of 1972 Karuizawa whisky.

Other rare spirits featured in the charity sale included: Hanyu Ichiro’s Malt The Joker, Pappy Van Winkle 23 Years Old, Glenfarclas 30 Years Old, Longmorn 23 Years Old and magnums of Absolut Elyx.
