From quizzes to cocktail masterclasses, the drinks industry isn’t letting self-isolation stand in the way of its ability to have a good time. Here, we round up this weekend’s online events that are not to be missed.

Cointreau will host an online mixology masterclass

As bartenders and patrons are forced indoors as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, socialising has moved online. But, for those tired of video calls the drinks industry is here to brighten your week.

From virtual whisky festivals to live-streamed DJ sets, the drinks sector has a host of exciting events to keep you entertained over the next seven days.

Slingsby Gin quiz

English gin brand Slingsby will host the second instalment in its Sofa Sessions series this evening (3 April) at 6pm BST.

Hosted by the brand’s in-house mixologist, this week’s session features the Slingsby Gin Quiz. Taking place live on Facebook and Instagram, the quiz will last 40 minutes and will test your gin and cocktail knowledge.

There will be on-the-spot prizes throughout the quiz for the first reply on the comments with a correct answer.

Tobermory Gin tasting

Scotland’s Tobermory Distillery will present an online gin tasting this evening (3 April) at 8.30pm BST.

The Isle of Mull-based distiller will host an interactive tasting of its Tobermory Gin with the distilling team, who will discus the gin’s island inspiration.

Live-streaming on the distillery’s Facebook page, the event will feature an overview of the brand’s history and its island production.

To participate or submit a question in advance visit Tobermory’s Facebook page. Questions shared ahead of the broadcast will automatically be entered into a draw to win a bottle of Tobermory Gin, accompanied by a set of glasses.

Cocktails from the Captain’s Larder

London cocktail bar Cahoots will host a social media mixology masterclass this weekend.

The venue’s Cocktails from the Captain’s Larder series will teach budding bartenders to craft signature Cahoots serves at home.

Streaming on the bar’s Instagram page at 4:30pm BST this evening (3 April), the masterclass will feature Cahoots cocktails such as the Vera Lynn (pictured), which combines gin, elderflower cordial, lemon, apple and ginger.

Krakenory

For drinkers looking for something less hands-on, Kraken rum has continued its series of audiobooks this week.

The second instalment in the Krakenory series of audiobooks is this week read by Kingsman actor Mark Strong.

Available to watch on the brand’s YouTube channel, the series sees Strong perform a selection of poems for rum fans.

Cointreau Cocktail Hour

Orange liqueur brand Cointreau has launched the Cointreau Cocktail Hour series, which sees bartenders around the US take over its social media channels.

Kicking off at 5pm EST this evening (3 April) on the @Cointreau_US Instagram account, the series will teach viewers to craft cocktails at home.

During each broadcast, viewers are encouraged to join Cointreau in donating to the USBG Foundation Bartender Emergency Assistance Program. Cointreau will match all social donations up to US$10,000.

Ghost Tequila Challenge

 

Ghost Tequila will kick off its Ghost Cocktail challenge today (3 April) at noon EST.

The challenge encourages out-of-work bartenders across the US to compete for cash prizes and hopes to raise money to support the on-trade during the coronavirus pandemic.

Bartenders across the US have created Ghost Tequila cocktails and today the public will be invited to vote for their favourites. For every vote cast, Ghost will contribute US$1 to the Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund.

Dalston’s Sessions Live

Mixer producer Dalston’s will host the first of its Sessions series this weekend.

Taking place tomorrow (4 April) at 12pm BST, the live-stream event features up-and-coming DJs from east London’s music scene performing from their houses.

Streaming on the brand’s Facebook page, the event hopes to raise money for mental health charity Pilot Light, with viewers encouraged to leave a virtual tip that will be donated to the organisation.

Lockdown Whisky Festival

Tomorrow (4 April), Highland distillery Tomatin will run a virtual whisky festival hosted by whisky influencer Aqvavitae.

As part of the event, brand ambassadors from across the sector will showcase a range of whiskies. Brands set to appear in the live-streamed festival include Adelphi, Arran, BenRiach, Cù Bòcan, GlenAllachie, Glencadam, Glen Moray, Kilkerran, Kilchoman, Paul John, Tomintoul and Tomatin.

Live-streamed on Tomatin’s YouTube channel, the whisky festival will run from 2pm-5pm BST.

Virtual Cocktail Club

Scotland-based Boë Gin will launch its new Virtual Cocktail Club tomorrow (4 April).

Running from 7pm BST on Facebook Live, the event will see travelling bartender Neil Patterson create a range of “easy at-home” cocktails while answering questions from viewers.

The Virtual Cocktail Club stream will be accompanied by a curated Spotify playlist, while VIP discounts and prizes will be awarded during the broadcast.

The Dram Team’s interactive whisky tasting

Whisky writer Felipe Schrieberg has partnered with subscription club The Dram Team to launch a series of interactive whisky tastings.

Launching on Wednesday 8 April, the tastings are open to anyone in mainland UK and offers “an intimate whisky and tasting experience from the comfort of your own home”.

Taking place via video conferencing platform Zoom, participants will receive six whiskies to taste in their own homes.

Running on Tuesdays-Sundays, £2 (US$2.50) from each ticket will be donated to UK food bank network the Trussell Trust.

Tastings are available Tuesdays-Fridays at 6pm BST, Saturdays at 5pm and 7pm BST, and Sundays at 4pm BST.

Instagram live distilling

Next week, English spirits producer Salcombe Gin will go live on Instagram to co-create a charity expression with viewers.

Salcombe Gin’s master distiller, Jason Nickels, will go live on the social media platform at 7pm BST on Thursday 9 April to make the gin.

Spectators will be able to choose their favourite botanicals and vote for the final recipe during the live stream. Those watching will also be asked to help name the new gin, which will be available to pre-order online at salcombegin.com.

The expression will be priced at £37.50 (US$47.50) per 500ml bottle, with all proceeds going to the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Urgent Appeal.
