Alderman’s Drinks to launch Arlu Rum in UK

Didsbury Gin owner Alderman’s Drinks has moved into rum with the launch of Arlu, which is available in three flavours.

The Arlu Rum range consists of three variants

Arlu Rum is made with liquid imported from Guyana’s Diamond Distillery and then blended with flavours and spices in Manchester, UK.

The range consists of: Arlu Rum Original Spiced, Arlu Rum Passionfruit & Mango and Arlu Rum Blood Orange.

The spiced rum is said to have notes of vanilla fudge and butter, while the passionfruit and mango and blood orange variants can be enjoyed in classic cocktails or with a mixer.

Manchester-based Alderman’s Drinks, which was founded by Mark Smallwood and Liam Manton, launched Arlu to tap into the growing rum category in the UK.

Sales of rum in the UK surpassed £1 billion (US$1.3bn) in 2018 after almost 35 million bottles were sold, according to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA). UK sales of spiced and flavoured rum grew by 80% between 2014 and 2019 to surpass 10m bottles.

“Consumers and connoisseurs are constantly looking for innovation, more so than ever in the rum category as the ‘rumaissance’ shows no signs of slowing down, and this range of beauties won’t disappoint,” said Manton.

Arlu Rum is priced at £23 (US$30) and will be available to buy from 2 March from British department store Harvey Nichols and online at www.arlurum.com.

In January last year, Didsbury Gin received a £75,000 (US$96,500) investment offer on hit BBC programme Dragons’ Den to help grow the brand internationally.
