Scotch whisky barrel-aged Tequila rebrands as Storywood

Tequila brand UWA, which uses Speyside Scotch casks for ageing, has relaunched as Storywood Tequila and signed a UK distribution deal with Halewood Wines & Spirits.

Scottish brand UWA has relaunched as Storywood Tequila

The Aberdeen-based company launched in 2017 with two super-premium 100% blue Weber agave Tequilas – Platinum Blanco and Reposado, which was aged for seven months in a Speyside Scotch whisky cask.

Founder of Storywood Tequila, Michael Ballantyne, said: “Storywood is the next chapter in my Tequila spirits journey. It’s a chance to really shake things up in the industry by focusing on cask-aged Tequilas born in Mexico but aged by Scotland.”

The core range of Storywood Tequila will retain one expression from UWA and will feature two brand new bottlings.

Ballantyne added: “My mission is to make Tequila more accessible to a wider audience encouraging brown spirit drinkers to step outside their comfort zone and be adventurous. We want to encourage Storywood Tequila drinkers to live free but sip slow, taking that time to sip and savour as you would with any fine barrel-aged liquid.”

The brand will roll out across the UK after signing a distribution deal with Halewood Wines & Spirits. Storywood Tequila also has plans to launch in Asia, Australia, and Europe over the next three years.

Blair Sterrick, agency brand manager at Halewood Wines & Spirits, said: “We are delighted to be adding Storywood Tequila to our portfolio of artisanal spirits at Halewood. Tequila is a huge opportunity for the UK spirits market and with serves generally leaning towards shots, we see a strong opportunity with Storywood to shift that perception and excite consumers.”

In May, UK-based Halewood Wines & Spirits opened a new operating unit in Miami to grow its portfolio in the US, Caribbean and the Americas.
