Isle of Arran debuts 21-year-old single malt

Independent Isle of Arran Distillers has released a limited edition 21-year-old single malt Scotch whisky as part of its Arran Malts range – the oldest bottling in the series.

Only 9,000 bottles of Isle of Arran 21 Year Old have been created

The 21-year-old is limited to 9,000 bottles, and joins the brand’s 10-year-old, 14-year-old and 18-year-old malts.

It is described as being rich and sweet with flavours of dark chocolate, grapefruit, ginger, spices and figs.

Bottled at 46% abv without chill filtration or caramel colouring, Isle of Arran 21 Year Old is available to purchase online at arranwhisky.com, as well as through specialist whisky retailers, at an RRP of £115 (US$147) per 700ml bottle.

James MacTaggart, master distiller at The Isle of Arran Distillers, said: “We’re extremely proud to have produced a dram that showcases our traditional Arran style, while the extended maturation process adds an extra elegance and complexity.

“It’s an immensely exciting time for the company and the island, with the release of this 21-year-old bottle and looking forward to the completion of the new Lagg distillery next year.”

Construction of Isle of Arran’s second distillery began in February 2017. It is expected to be fully operational in 2019 and will increase the independent distiller’s annual capacity to two million litres.
