Buffalo Trace to release 25-year-old Bourbon
By Owen BellwoodSazerac-owned Buffalo Trace has bottled a 25-year-old Bourbon for the latest release in its Old Fashioned Copper (OFC) Vintage Whiskey series.
Buffalo Trace has unveiled a 25-year-old Bourbon priced at US$2,500Buffalo Trace OFC Vintage 1993 follows previous bottlings that date from 1985, 1989 and 1990.
The 1993 vintage has been packaged in a wooden display box containing a provenance card, alongside a crystal bottle with copper lettering embossed onto the bottle.
Priced at RRP US$2,500, the whiskey also features a back label that lists certain milestones for the year 1993.
Harlen Wheatley, master distiller at Buffalo Trace, said: “It’s hard to believe that the same year this Bourbon was made, in 1993, the world wide web was just becoming a ‘thing,’ and introduced to the public domain.
“Now when you think of how far everything has come, from a technology standpoint to Bourbon’s popularity again, it’s mind blowing. What’s really amazing is how solid this Bourbon is, and how the taste and integrity have held up.”
The 25-year-old Bourbon is describe as having a nose of dark cherry, honey, and smoked oak, leading to “notes of caramel, toasted vanilla, and cocoa” on the palate.
In 2016, Buffalo Trace released three vintage-dated Bourbons exclusively to non-profit organisations to raise money for their chosen fields – including an OFC 1983 bottle.
The three bottles – which included vintage whiskeys from 1980 and 1982 – raised nearly US$1.2 million at auction for charitable causes, including cancer, cystic fibrosis, children’s rights, autism, military veterans, animal protection and arts foundations.
In September, Buffalo Trace Distillery unveiled the line-up of its 2018 Antique Collection of whiskeys, including a 17-year-old Eagle Rare Bourbon.
