Macallan unveils latest Masters of Photography whiskyBy Melita Kiely
Edrington-owned Scotch whisky brand The Macallan has unveiled its seventh Masters of Photography whisky – the Magnum Edition.
Created in collaboration with photographic cooperative Magnum Photos, The Macallan Masters of Photography: Magnum Edition has been designed to celebrate the construction and opening of the new £140 million Macallan distillery and visitor centre through rare imagery and liquid.
The whisky comprises a vatting of eight casks, including a “spicy gingered cask”; a “cask of age” with great oak influence; a “classic cask” with “intense black cherry notes”; an ex-European red wine cask; a first-fill American barrel; an “intensely sweet yet classic Macallan” cask; and two casks that aim to emulate photography that “captures the familiar, but from an often obscure point of view”.
Each pack comes with a collection of images taken by six photographers who have captured different aspects of the new Macallan distillery and visitor experience on film.
The photographers are: Steve McCurry, Martin Parr, Paolo Pellegrin, Mark Power, Gueorgui Pinkhassov and Alec Soth.
Ken Grier, creative director for The Macallan, said: “Magnum individuals are the ultimate masters of their medium, offering incredible diversity and distinction within their ranks and capturing all aspects of human life around the world with an unparalleled sense of vision, imagination and genius.
“They are the greatest collective of documentary photographers in the world and their partnership with The Macallan reflects our shared values of craftsmanship and commitment to excellence.”
The Macallan Masters of Photography: Magnum Edition is available globally now for an RPP of US$3,500. Only 2,000 packs have been released globally.
