The Macallan partners with Mario Testino for Scotch edition

The Macallan has partnered with famed photographer Mario Testino for the fifth edition in its Masters of Photography series.

The new limited edition release comprises of a gift box with seven bottles of The Macallan Scotch whisky. Six miniature bottles are each filled with a single cask whisky that best represents one of the six pillars of the distillery: The spiritual home, small stills, finest cut, oak casks, natural colour and “peerless” spirit.

The six whiskies are then blended together and bottled in a full-size 700ml bottle.

Each unit is accompanied by one of four shots taken by Testino and a photographic booklet containing 20 images taken during the process.

Best known for intimate photographs of model Kate Moss and taking the iconic portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales for her Vanity Fair cover story in 1997, Testino has tried to capture the spirit of the ultimate party in his work for The Macallan.

Each of the four prints, which were shot in a former palace near Tiananmen Square in Beijing, features a group of characters who emobody one of the four pillars of The Macallan through their visual appearance.

Testino said: “When I was approached by The Macallan to take part in the Masters of Photography Series I decided to capture the moment when people get together to celebrate, in the atmosphere of a whisky environment – a whisky club.”

Just 1,000 editions of The Macallan Masters of Photography Mario Testino have been created, retailing for around £2,215 each.

Previous editions have seen the Edrington-owned Scotch whisky brand collaborate with Elliott Erwin, Annie Leibovitz, Rankin and Albert Watson.
