Dead Rabbit founders to launch Irish whiskey

Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry have teamed up with The Dublin Liberties Distillery to launch a new Irish whiskey to mark the five-year anniversary of The Dead Rabbit bar in New York.

The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey will be released on the New York bar’s fifth anniversary

Muldoon and McGarry have collaborated with master distiller Darryl McNally to launch The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey, a five-year-old blend of Irish single malt and grain whiskeys.

The expression is first aged in seasoned Bourbon casks for five years, and then finished in small virgin American oak barrels.

On the nose, it is described as light and aromatic with toasted oak notes and a hint of caramel. While the palate has a deep rich mellow feel, finishing with a long soft hint of vanilla.

The bottle’s design features an upside-down dead rabbit, a nod to the infamous New York City-based Irish street gang, and the gang’s leader, John Morrissey.

The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey is recommended served on the rocks, as the base for mixed drinks or in an Irish Coffee.

Domaine Select Wine & Spirits will handle the brand’s distribution in New York, when the whiskey launches on 12 February to coincide with the bar’s anniversary celebrations.

“The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey is a five-year old premium blended Irish whiskey, so it’s only appropriate that this whiskey makes its entry to the market as Sean and Jack celebrate their bar’s five-year anniversary,” said McNally.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Sean and Jack on the development of this liquid, we couldn’t be happier with the end result.”

Muldoon and McGarry, added: “The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog holds the largest collection of Irish whiskey in North America, we’ve been endlessly fascinated by the category. This whiskey has been patiently waiting for five long years and we can’t wait to share it with you all.”

The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey will be available from the 12 February at an RRP of US$39.99 for 750ml in New York and New Jersey before it rolls out to key markets worldwide from April.

The news follows Muldoon and McGarry’s plans to expand The Dead Rabbit to almost twice its current size after signing a 17-year lease for the building next door.
