Jim Beam creates ‘world’s first’ shot-pouring decanter

Jim Beam has launched what is thought to be the world’s first smart decanter, which can answer questions and serve shots of Bourbon.

Jim can answer questions and also pour shots of whiskey

Following in the footsteps of last year’s Jim Beam Apple Watch, the smart decanter, named Jim, has been “engineered with more than 200 years of Bourbon know-how”.

Jim aims to advance the technology of shot-pouring and drinking, providing Bourbon fans with a high-tech way to enjoy America’s native spirit.

Unlike other smart home devices such as the Amazon Echo, Google Home, Apple HomePod, Jim not long answers questions but offers shot-pouring functionality, allowing consumers to enjoy a shot of whiskey from the comfort of their couch.

Voiced by seventh generation master distiller Fred Noe, the decanter-turned-virtual-voice-assistant includes a sleek compartment for Bourbon storage and supports a range of voice commands.

The smart decanter may not be able to turn off the lights, or tell you a joke, but Jim Beam hope its new gadget will bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and Kentucky.

“At Jim Beam, we’re in the business of evolving the way people drink delicious bourbon,” said Noe. “For decades, we produced unique limited-edition decanters that are now collectors’ items. And now, we’re introducing a smart decanter that lets fans enjoy their Bourbon on demand with friends and family.”

The Jim smart decanter is available in limited quantities on Jim Beam’s website for US$34.90.
