The Scottish city of Edinburgh is to see its first cocktail festival take place this August, organised by creative agency The Drink Cabinet in partnership with Food + Flea Market.

Coinciding with the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Cocktail Festival will take place from 4-28 August, with a hub situated in the Waverley Development, just off the Royal Mile.

Alongside an array of serves, visitors can expect masterclasses, pop-up events and live performances from DJs and musicians.

Street food will be provided by the team behind Food + Flea Market, Hal Prescott and Scotty Kirkham.

Confirmed events include a Ketel One Vodka Bloody Mary Kitchen and a Tanqueray Forest, with other experiential activities to be announced.

“The Drink Cabinet is excited to bring the first ever cocktail festival to Edinburgh at such a key time in the cultural calendar,” said Lauren Stewart, co-founder and co-director of drinks specialist agency The Drink Cabinet UK.

“The annual Festival in August attracts so many visitors from so many countries and cultures. Our aim is to get everyone together in one place, to enjoy world-class Scottish hospitality and great drinks in an incredible new space – truly highlighting the vibrancy of our capital city.”

Food + Flea’s Prescott added: “We’re looking forward to kicking off New Waverley’s first cocktail festival with The Drink Cabinet.

“We are proud to collaborate with Lauren and the team again, as independent small businesses work hard to breathe new life into a once neglected part of the Old Town – creating an exciting new event for the city.”

Charlotte Swanson, Scottish development manager for New Waverley, added: “New Waverley is fast becoming a thriving and exciting new urban quarter, and we are delighted to support young entrepreneurs such as Lauren and Hal in their endeavours of creative consumer experiences and supporting emerging talents.

“We have already attracted some great national and local businesses here, and it will be great to have the festival spirit on our doorstep this August.”

Edinburgh Cocktail Festival joins other first-time events in the growing UK spirits calendar, including Bristol Whisky Underground, first announced in May.
