Ryan Hill moves to Rémy from Edrington

Former Edrington Asia travel retail director Ryan Hill has joined Rémy Cointreau as regional director GTR Asia Pacific, with Ian McLernon appointed international TR director for Europe and Americas.

Ryan Hill has joined Rémy Cointreau from Edrington

The executive reshuffle comes as Peter Sant, formerly senior vice president global travel retail, moves to London to lead the Rémy Cointreau UK, Ireland and Nordics domestic markets team.

Hill takes up the post of regional director GTR Asia Pacific after more than 10 years in Asia with The Macallan maker Edrington, most recently as managing director of Asia Travel Retail. He also held senior sales roles with Patons Macadamia and Russ Berrie.

He replaces Ernest Tse, who moves to the regional sales director South China role.

McLernon started his career at Whitbread, before holding positions with Coors Brewing, Unwins Wine Group and Drinks Works. He joined Parfums Christian Dior as commercial sales director, and then moved into travel retail with the firm as regional director travel retail Asia Pacific. He stepped back into drinks in 2015 as Moët Hennessy Diageo Singapore director and general manager, before subsequently being named director of travel retail Asia Pacific.

Both McLernon and Hill will report to Valérie Chapoulaud-Floquet, Rémy Cointreau CEO, and both appointments are effective immediately.

“Ryan’s excellent knowledge of travel retail and the Asia zone will be vital to success in his challenging new role at Rémy Cointreau,” said Chapoulaud-Floquet. “We extend to him a very warm welcome.”

She added: “Ian’s knowledge of luxury and the wine and spirits industry, combined with his success and expertise in travel retail, set him in good stead to accompany us in further developing our activities in this dynamic market.

“Peter’s contribution has been key to the development of the Rémy Cointreau brands for the last eight years from our travel retail worldwide headquarters in Singapore. We look forward to benefiting from his energy, experience and enthusiasm in his new European role.”

Earlier this month, Rémy Cointreau announced full-year reported sales growth of 4.2% in 2016/17 driven by strong Cognac gains in Asia and the US.

Edrington Global Travel Retail named Marcelo Colombo as its new commercial director for Asia Travel Retail, succeeding Hill, in early April.
