Glenrothes unveils wine cask-finished range

Berry Bros & Rudd has launched The Glenrothes Wine Merchant’s Collection, a range of whiskies finished in casks from “the world’s finest wine estates”.

The Glenrothes, The Wine Merchant’s Cask, Lustau No 1 is bottled at 55.2% abv

Distilled in 1992 and matured for more than two decades in hogshead casks, the whiskies are “finished” in casks which formerly held wines from Château de Beaucastel, Lustau and Ridge vineyards, casks from port houses Warre’s and Graham’s, as well as ex-rum casks from the St Lucia Distillery.

After the whisky was transferred into wine casks in 2014, it was carefully kept until it was recently judged to be “perfectly balanced and mature” and ready for bottling.

Ronnie Cox, brands heritage director at Berry Bros & Rudd, said: “The Glenrothes Wine Merchant’s Collection is the result of combining the 300-year-old lineage of Berry Bros & Rudd with those of some of our most illustrious wine suppliers.”

All non chill-filtered and natural in colour, the single malts from the new range are bottled at cask strength, resulting in “intense, distinctive and unusual” expressions of The Glenrothes.

Cox adds: “The combination of flavours of both wine and whisky and their balance is always a delightful challenge but, I hope you agree that each of these expressions proudly manifests the distinguished nobility of both.”

The Glenrothes Wine Merchant’s Collection will be available to buy from Berry Bros & Rudd and its representatives in key markets at an RRP of £200 (US$300) per bottle.
