Ardbeg leads ‘three cheers’ to distillery manager

Islay single malt Scotch whisky Ardbeg is marking distillery manager Mickey Heads’s 10th anniversary in the role by encouraging fans to share a toast to him on social media.

Mickey Heads is marking 10 years as Ardbeg distillery manager

Heads, an Islay native, was appointed to the role in 2007, ten years after The Glenmorangie Company acquired the then-silent Ardbeg Distillery and re-opened it.

In honour of his decade of service, Ardbeg is embarking on a social media campaign, inviting fans of the peated Scotch brand to nose, taste and toast Heads with their favourite expression.

Participants can film and share their ‘three cheers’ on social media using the #3cheers hashtag.

The content will be collated into a surprise for Heads, which the distillery says is being kept under wraps for now.

Heads will take part in his own tastings in the distillery’s first official tasting video set to be posted on Ardbeg’s website and across the brand’s social media platforms. In the film, he will nose, taste and toast Ardbeg’s Ultimate range of whiskies – Ardbeg Ten Years Old, Ardbeg Uigeadail and Ardbeg Corryvreckan – and share his thoughts on the expressions.

“I’ve loved every minute of my years at Ardbeg,” said Heads. “The distillery has grown stronger and stronger in the past decade, and today its untamed spirit is enjoyed by Ardbeggians around the globe.

“Here on Islay, I’ll be raising a glass of Ardbeg to celebrate how far we’ve come.  I hope Ardbeggians will join me to toast The Ultimate Islay Malt.  Sláinte!”

Last month, Ardbeg revealed it was now the Premiership Rugby Man of the Match sponsor, with the best performing player in a game receiving a bottle of the distillery’s 10-year-old single malt.
