Loch Lomond whiskies touch down in Glasgow

Loch Lomond Group has officially launched its first global travel retail (GTR) Scotch whisky range with World Duty Free at Glasgow Airport.

Four expressions are now available in the retailer’s store: Loch Lomond 12-Year-Old and Loch Lomond Inchmurrin Maderia Cask Finish single malts; blended Scotch Loch Lomond Signature; and Loch Lomond Single Grain, which is unusually produced using malted barley.

The whiskies, distilled at the Loch Lomond distillery in Alexandria, are available in 90 markets internationally, but the launch marks the first time the brand has been listed in GTR.

Following the launch at Glasgow – the distillery’s ‘home’ airport – the range will roll out in the Nordics in February, with locations in Canada and the US also set to stock the range.

To mark the launch in Glasgow, the line will be showcased at a tasting table throughout February and March, giving shoppers the opportunity to sample across the range.

The packaging for the four Loch Lomond whiskies has been designed to tell the story of whisky creation, with a focus on the stills used.

“We’ve been keen to introduce a global travel retail range for some time now following increased demand for our Loch Lomond whiskies overseas,” said André de Almeida, GTR managing director at Loch Lomond Group.

“It means a great deal to us to offer the new range at World Duty Free in Glasgow Airport, less than 15 miles from our spiritual home in the heart of Loch Lomond – one of Scotland’s most beautiful and popular visitor destinations.

“We’re confident that we are offering something new and unique to the marketplace that will deliver strong sales and a sense of discovery for whisky drinkers around the world.”

Francois Bourienne, commercial director, at Glasgow Airport, commented: “It’s exciting to be the first international airport to offer Loch Lomond Whiskies’ new bespoke global travel retail range. We’re also very proud to be supporting a brand based so close to Glasgow Airport on the shores of Loch Lomond, one of Scotland’s most beautiful and iconic attractions. Many of our customers will probably fly over the distillery itself – one of the whisky world’s best kept secrets.”

Fred Creighton, UK & Germany managing director at World Duty Free, commented: “We’re delighted to offer our Glasgow Airport customers the opportunity to purchase and enjoy the local Loch Lomond Whiskies’ exciting new travel exclusive range before anyone else.

“This very special collection is only available at the airport and it’s great to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to take a piece of Glaswegian heritage away with them, to remember their trip by.”

The four-expression range is priced from £25 to £75 (about US$31 to $94), and was first unveiled at the 2016 TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, held in Cannes, France.

The wider Loch Lomond Group whisky portfolio includes single malts from the Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown and Inchmurrin, which is also produced at the Loch Lomond distillery.
