West coast takes spotlight in new Scotch festival

A local retailer is to launch a new consumer whisky festival, called West Coast Whisky Fèis, in the Scottish town of Oban this July.

The Scottish town of Oban will host a new whisky festival dedicated to west coast distillers

The inaugural West Coat Whisky Fèis, the brainchild of Oban Whisky and Fines Wines, will take place at Oban’s Skipinnish Cèilidh House on Saturday 22 July 2017.

Distillers based along the west coast of Scotland will exhibit at the event, while local food producers will also sell their wares. In addition, Diageo-owned Oban Distillery will host a number of masterclasses to showcase its whiskies.

“We wanted to create an event that shows off the incredible whiskies that the west coast has to offer,” said Euan Finlayson, proprietor of Oban Whisky and Fine Wines. “The aim is to offer a range of whiskies and masterclasses that can appeal to newcomers and aficionados alike.”

Visitors will have the opportunity to win a full bottle of single malt Scotch by taking part in a test to identify whiskies by smell alone. There will also be a Fèis shop in Cèilidh House where attendees can make additional purchases.

Cèilidh House will host West Coat Whisky Fèis from 12pm to 6pm on 22 July 2017. Festival organisers say that other supporting events are “likely” to take place during the day and will be announced via the festival’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Samples from exhibitors are included in the ticket price, while masterclasses are available at an additional fee.
