Emperador to make US debut under new deal

Emperador Brandy, the world’s third best-selling spirit brand, is poised to enter the US market after signing an exclusive distribution deal with G.K. Skaggs.

Emperador Brandy will launch in the US at the start of next year

Owned by Philippines-based Emperador Distillers, the brand is also the world’s best-selling brandy, shifting 30.5 million nine-litre cases in 2015 (Brand Champions).

From the first quarter of 2017, California-based G.K. Skaggs will import and market Emperador Brandy across major US markets.

The distributor will handle both the core 40% abv Emperador Brandy and 27.5% abv Emperador Light, which launched in the Philippines market in 2010.

Emperador Distillers is one of three companies within Alliance Global Group, which is headed by Chinese Filipino billionaire Andrew Tan.

In November last year, Emperador acquired Beam Suntory’s Jerez-based brandy and Sherry business for €275m (now US$288m), following an unsuccessful bid to takeover Suntory’s Louis Royer Cognac brand.

In 2014, the firm completed its £430m (now US$530m) acquisition of Scotch whisky business Whyte & Mackay.
