Giant distillery map goes up for auction

A giant distillery map made from corrugated iron and barrel staves that featured in BBC documentary Scotch! The Story of Whisky is to be auctioned for charity.

David Hayman presents the illuminated distillery map of Scotland

The illuminated map marks every operational distillery in Scotland. It was created especially for the documentary, which charted the rise of the Scotch whisky industry.

Move On Up Productions, producer of Scotch! The Story of Whisky, has partnered with online resource and magazine Scotchwhisky.com to auction the map and raise funds for Spirit Aid – a humanitarian relief organisation founded by Scottish actor David Hayman, who presented the show.

The Glasgow-based charity assists young people and children across Palestine, Afghanistan, Malawi and Scotland whose lives have been impacted by war, poverty, lack of opportunity, or humanitarian crisis.

“This distinctive distillery map was a central feature of Scotch! The Story of Whisky, and instantly recognisable to the many viewers across the UK who tuned in to discover more about the world’s favourite whisky,” said Becky Paskin, editor of Scotchwhisky.com.

“We’re proud to be working with Move On Up Productions in auctioning the map in support of Spirit Aid. No doubt it will be a welcome addition to an existing whisky business or bar seeking to further enhance its educational offer for visitors.”

Scotchwhisky.com is operating the silent auction and invites sealed bids starting at £150, which can be emailed to whiskymap@scotchwhisky.com.
