Wemyss Malts has released three expressions in its new limited edition range of blended malts, including Spice King Batch Strength 001Wemyss Malts – Batch Strength is a new collection of whiskies blended from casks of single malt whiskies from more than 10 Scottish distilleries.
The first three blended malts make up Batch 001 and consist of: The Hive Batch Strength 001, Spice King Batch Strength 001 and Peat Chimney Batch Strength 001. Just 6,000 bottles of each are available.
The Hive Batch Strength 001 has an abv of 54.5% and is described on the nose as “juicy orange segments stewed in orange and cinnamon” while on the palate it offers “floral sweetness followed by opulent orange oil.”
At an abv of 56% abv, Spice King Batch Strength 001 on the palate is described as “sweet demerara sugar drizzled in carrot cake mix.”
While Peat Chimney Batch Strength 001, at an abv of 57%, has a flavour profile of “hot smoked meats, paprika and pickled ginger” with a long finish of “sweetened smoke”.
Each expression is non chill-filtered and is said to deliver “intensified aromas, mouth feel and flavours” due to the higher abv.
William Wemyss, founder and managing director at Wemyss Malts, said: “Our new Batch Strength blended malts consist of just 6000 bottles each, providing the whisky enthusiast and adventurous consumer with more variety in their choice of blended malts.
“Our Batch Strength range is intensely enjoyable neat, with ice and makes the perfect ingredient for quality, short whisky cocktails such as the Old Fashioned or Rob Roy.”
Future batches will be bottled in varying quantities due to the amount of casks, volume of liquid and the final alcohol strength of each blended batch.
Wemyss Malts Batch Strength Blended Malts – Batch 001 is available now from selected retailers in the UK, EU and key Asian markets with an RRP ranging from £45 to £50.
