Girvan Distillery decommissions No.1 Apps
William Grant & Sons is expanding the capacity of its Girvan grain distillery with the build of a new still, at the same time as decommissioning its historical No.1 Apps.

The Scotland-based drinks group has demolished a warehouse at its large Girvan Distillery in Lowlands with the intention of building another still on the site.
Girvan Distillery manager Stuart Watts said the still will have capacity to create 10,500 litres of spirit per hour and will be “very, very efficient”.
The distillery was built in 1963 under the direction of Charles Gordon, late life president of William Grant & Sons and great-grandson of company founder William Grant, who died in 2013. The first still built at Girvan – No.1 Apps – has operated since its opening.
No.1 Apps is the original Girvan Patent Still system and created the “pioneering” Girvan Patent Still 25 Year Old whisky, released in 2013. William Grant & Sons said the launch was part of its ambitions to make single grain the “third leg” of the Scotch whisky category.
Girvan has undergone extensive expansion since opening and now also includes five column stills. In total, the distillery has capacity to produce 110 million litres per annum.
