Buffalo Trace unveils 2015 Antique Collection

Buffalo Trace will launch its 2015 Antique Collection at the end of September, featuring five limited edition whiskeys.

The Buffalo Trace 2015 Antique Collection will be available from the end of September 2015

Among the collection will be the 2015 George T. Stagg edition – a non-chill-filtered Bourbon bottled at 69.1% abv that is described as tasting of espresso, molasses, chocolate, vanilla and dates.

This particular batch comprises 128 barrels of Bourbon that were filled in spring 2000 and yielded just one or two gallons of whiskey in some instances, as the barrels were nearly empty having lost 84% to evaporation.

The Antique Collection’s William Larue Weller is an uncut, non-chill-filtered wheated Bourbon that was distilled in the spring of 2003 and aged on the second and sixth floors of Warehouses I, K and L.

With an abv of 67.3%, this is the strongest variant to date in the William Larue Weller series with flavours of toffee, nougat and figs.

Also launched as part of the Antique Collection is the 2015 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye – a straight rye whiskey distilled in spring 2009.

Bottled at just under 63.5% abv, flavours have been noted to include fig, clove and allspice.

Eagle Rare 17 Year Old will also launch at the end of this month after 17 years ageing on the first, second and third floors of Warehouses Q and I to deliver a Bourbon that tastes of oak, tabacco and dates.

Completing The Antique Collection is Sazerac Rye 18 Year Old, which offers a straight rye whiskey with flavours of molasses and allspice with a long, dry finish.

This is the last Sazerac Rye 18 Year Old to come from fully matured barrels that were transferred into a stainless steel tank at the Buffalo Trace Distillery to stop further ageing.

Next year’s batch will be drawn from barrels that were filled in April 1998, with following releases from barrels in 1999 and so forth.

Each expression within the 2015 Antique Collection will have an RRP of US$80.

Buffalo Trace first introduced the Antique Collection more than 10 years ago.
