Yorkshire welcomes alcohol-free bar
By Annie HayesA Yorkshire pub is set to be transformed into an alcohol-free bar by a local alcohol addiction recovery service.
The alcohol-free bar trend has spread to YorkshireThe 5,000 square foot venue was formerly a popular LGBT pub before it closed down last month, and will now be taken over by The Basement Recovery Project – a local organisation that supports people with suffering from alcohol and drug addiction.
The project plans to convert one of the venue’s three floors into a late night “dry” bar for the local community, while the additional floors will feature an IT suite, “chill out zones” and meeting spaces.
Stuart Honor, the organisation’s founder, told the Examiner:“It will give people from all backgrounds a safe, no-alcohol space in the centre to socialise and learn new skills throughout the day and evening.
“We’re inspired to create a big, inclusive and healthy community and get rid of the stigma attached to recovering from addictions.”
Last year, a former star from Coronation Street opened a“dry bar” in Brighton to help recovering alcoholics.
